田中將大在26日熱身賽先發，對大都會投4.2局被敲4安打失3分，吞敗，球速也掉到142公里上下，田中賽後表示，因為刻意投二縫線速球，希望能在新球季成為主要武器。
田中首局因捕手失誤掉1分；四局被梅柏利(John Mayberry JR.)敲出陽春砲；五局2人出局，二壘有人時下場，接替投球的班瑟斯(Dellin Betances)被拉格瑞斯(Juan Lagares)轟出兩分砲，有1分算在田中身上。
此役田中投了4.2局被敲4安打，包括1發全壘打，自責分2分，球速約落在140到144公里之間，7次三振。洋基最終2比7輸球，田中吞下春訓首敗。
田中賽後表示：「今天因為我刻意投二縫線，所以球速沒上來。去年因為很多四縫線速球被打很遠，所以新球季要增加二縫線的比例。」
「我對現在的球速感覺很好，」田中說，「我本來就不是速球型投手，我一場球只要有1、2顆150公里的速球就好了。」
洋基總教練吉拉迪(Joe Girardi)建議，「兩種球要交換使用，四縫線能投出速度；伸卡球(二縫線)又可以製造較大的位移，方便解決打者。」
由於沙胖(CC Sabathia)預定29日以及4月3日先發，按照投1休5的節奏，將無法趕上4月7日的開幕戰先發，所以外界預計將由田中擔任本季開幕戰先發，田中日前也表示，若能在開幕戰先發登板，將是莫大的榮耀。
